Air Bleed Valve

Gents

I have an issue with the air bleed valve on my fuel filter. The car is a 95 E300D and is leaking diesel from the valve, unless I turn the valve to the "stop" position, which shuts the fuel supply down. Most cars that I've seen don't have this particular valve.

Anyway, it leaks fuel from the inside of the valve up through the top, but fuel doesn't get passed the 2 rubber o-rings. I can't find much information about the valve, but am assuming that in the "stop" position, it cuts all fuel off...and in the fully "open" position that it's to bleed the air. I'm slightly confused as to how that's supposed to work, though, as if air can leak, then can fuel.

It doesn't make much sense to a simple individual like myself. All input is welcomed. Attached is a pic of the valve.

Appreciated,

Andy

Cant rememebr who, but another member did rebuild his in the last year. In the 606 world its only used on the 95 with the 606.910. Its not a bleed valve. The IP is self pumping and self bleeding. Its simply a kill switch.

It prob needs new orings to prevent air getting in. Overtightening can deform or pinch an oring.

Terry

The 2 o-rings have been replaced with new. The fuel is leaking up the center of the shaft, which is where the air bleeds from...if I have it correct, that is. I know that a new valve is approx $90, but am not convinced as to the correct operation of the valve to begin with...so I don't want to invest the money as of yet.

You know what...I very much appreciate you digging that up for me! I've been in a lab testing network gear all day and just saw this since this morning's post.

Thanks much Terry! I'm going to give a rebuild a try.and see what I come up with.

Much appreciated again,

Andy

I had the same problem, but it looked like someone had whacked it or something, it was crooked. Engine stank to high heaven of diesel. Popped on a new one and now no leak.

Funny I called it an air bleed valve...but quite frankly, I was at Costco one day getting lunch and browsing for grins of course, and in the food court area were a couple of Merc techs local to ATL. So I asked them about the issue and they told me it was an air bleed. With that said, I was completely unaware that the IP is a self bleed device...slick! This is why I commented that I was unclear of how that valve worked, as it just didn't make logical sense to me. I'm going to rebuild the valve with the recommended o-ring size and take some pics of the innards for the edification of this post.

Hey, that was me who repaired the valve. Instead of a drift pin, I used a small brad. Even though I bought a new one, I'd use my rebuilt valve any day with confidence.
