What type of tranny fluid?

Hi all,
I need to top-up my trans fluid (slow leak). What type do I need for my 79 300D?
Thanks again

lots of them dont say dex III on the front anymore. Read the back of one saying "dex" on the front and it will tell you if it covers dex III

Has anyone on here used Royal Purple ATF? I was thinking about getting some. It is expensive, but if it only needs to be done every 2 years, I think it might be worth it. Any ideas? Waste of money?

Waste of money. Don't waste your money on synthetic either.

... unless you tow (higher heat transmissivity) or live in an area where it's below ~40F when you start your car.

I would like to know owners' experiences with different brands of synthetic ATF, ... a few here were happier with Valvoline than Mobil 1?

Those who actually use it please.

Doesn't ATF have a mileage rather than time interval? And isn't that mileage interval 30K miles? I'd have trouble keeping ATF in a transmission beyond 30K miles regardless of its constitution. On these cars that weren't spec'd for synthetic to begin with, anyway.

Does anyone do ATF analysis?

Just put Valvoline synth in mine last weekend, after draining the pan and torque converter. So far, it shifts smoother, although it shifted like garbage before, so it's hard to tell.

I went with Valvoline after seeing how much M1 costs in comparison.

Not great feedback, but I'd use it again.

I'm an Amsoil dealer and I can tell you now its worth every penny.

I had a 1994 GMC Sonoma that had 295,000 miles on the original motor when I sold it this past spring and it didn't even burn oil. Amsoil since I bought it. I also have a 1994 C2500 Chevy with 245K on it with the original drivetrain and its fine too. Those GAS POWERED mileages rival some the diesels on here...

Once I buy my 84 300D, everything will get switched over to synthetic. Change the engine oil once a year or every 25K miles. DOUBLES the factory recommended service intervals for the trans and differential.

Saying synthetics are "bunk" is pure ignorance. Too many tests by too many sources prove the exact opposite to be true.....
