Engine Knock
I have searched the previous threads, but cant find what i'm looking for.
I have a 79 300D, I did a diesel purge last weekend, then a full filter swap and then a valve adjustment. Several valves were tight, and I loosened them appropriately. After getting everything back together, the knocking that I had at idle was noticeably better. But a few days later, the knocking came back, but much worse. It doesnt happen when idling, it happen more when i driving, fast or slow but seems more apparent when accelerating. But while driving along normally, the knocking seems kind of random. It sounds like a hammer tapping the valve cover. If this was injector nailing, would the knocking be more consistent? Any other diagnosis or things to look for? Thanks, Marty

Any chance the knocking is something loose somewhere under the hood?
If it is fuel related it could be an air leak down by the fuel inlet hoses or the in the Hand Primer.

I don't think anything is loose, at least nothing that is visibly loose.
I did some more listneing today, and I could hear it while parked and idling, but only really when i pulled on the throttle linkage, to increase the rpm's. Could I have free'd up some junk in the injectors from the purge I did, and now its causing more knocking? Should I do another purge?
