Clean the pointer and timing marks on the pulley.

Check cam timing/chain elongation while your hands are dirty. Much easier to turn the crank with the fan and shroud out of the way.

There is some talk that a 606 water pump is an upgrade over the 603 pump and some debate as to whether a cast or welded or plastic impeller is the way to go. DaveM/gsxr or Speedy300Dturbo should know the details.

Interesting, once I remove the water pump I will take a look at the impellers, I think it's original. I may just order a new one!
It is leaking a bit but very little, not enough to drop on the floor.
I will be getting this one if I decide to change it..
Is this a good one?

I will extend this thread or make another one with pics..
Thanks guys!

On my 74 240D I went through two vacuum pump diaphragms, they don't like prolonged high speed. When the bearing went I installed a used pump from the five cylinder block, a perfect fit and the end of my vacuum problem. I will tell you that that car stopped a hell of a lot better and I didn't have to wait for the doors to unlock.
