Gee, sounds like it might be filters or primer pump. Hmmm, who ever would have thought of that..........

The culprit of my fuel starvation is.... the Secondary fuel filter...

I changed it about a month ago, so assumed it was fine.

Next time insted of taking a diesel shower...remove the rubber lines at the bottom of the tank and drain the last few gallons into a bucket...works like a charm.

I did... The shower happened when my 5 gallon tank filled....

Thinking fast... I ran and grabbed my new 5 gallon garden sprayer that had not been used yet...

I'll let you know if diesel is a good weed killer.

Sure you get a prize. A possibility of changing the replacement filter again sooner than expected. Theres got to be some junk in that fuel tank. Why not install a fuel pressure gauge? You will know when a fuel filter change is due.

By the time you develop problems or symptoms like yours it is way overdue. I think the 616/617 engine delivers superior milage till the filter or filters become restricted. Car runs completely normal except for perhaps a slightly elevated trace of exhaust smoke. Probably hardly noticeable in itself. Yet your Fuel milage has dropped. On that basis alone a gauge is more than cost effective.

Read Cervans current Rack damper thread. The ideal for your application was based on my observation of people changing fuel filters on a maintenance schedule had noticed the fuel milage increase afterwards and mentioned it. Too many had indicated this not for it to be factual. This did not make sense to me. So I catalogued the information till it fit somewhere. I think it fits now.
