Easy question maybe? how to remove driver's side kick plate?

well, I have to replace the cruise control amp in the SDL. If I understand it correctly, I have to remove the kickplate, unbolt the amp, and then unscrew the two philliips head screws holding the amp to the bracket.

My question is, how do I remove the driver's side kick plate? Does it slide forward and then pull out?

On my SD, there are a couple of metal screws, and one plastic screw near the center console. That plastic one is a 90 degree thing.

I am confused - I thought that the amp was under the plate on the left side of the driver's compartment (the one near the door). Is it the panel near the center console?

Under the steering column. IIRC the kick panel stays in place. Only the underdash liner comes out. Or maybe just release the near edge and let it drop.

Thanks Sixto, I would have had tons of fun tearing out the wrong part.

I assume the amp will be readily apparent once I get that panel off?

Amp removal

Sixto is right. But if your car is a second generation('87 and on I think) you will be hampered by the metal knee "crash protector".

This thing is a bear to remove. The left side bolts are ok. It's getting to the center bolts. There are access holes to do so. But it requires a good sense of feel to locate the bolts.

The anchor bolt for the cruise amp/seatbelt buzzer bracket is accessed from the left side and behind the amp. Very hard to see with this crash protector in place.

I have tried using a mirror with a good flash light but I was one hand short of accomplishing that method.

Another discovery I have made on the 90's Sel Sdl models. It is not necessary to remove the bracket that holds the amp. These models use a slip on clamp. Just remove the forward clamp holding the amp, then pull firmly on the amp. This will disengage the back clamp.
