IP o-ring life

Well almost two years ago I changed my o-rings on my 1992 300D 2.5. Almost two years and almost 50K ULSD miles later it is leaking again. I am guessing this is a pretty reasonable service interval. Anyone have any thoughts?

Seems rather short to me; was the O-ring Viton or Buna rubber? I always make sure I get Viton, and it seems to last a long time.

Its strange, 110,000 miles so far and after 10 years, I have no leak on my OM616 turbo which is driven in hot and cold weather condition in India nor the 300D turbo which is used in Staten Island.

Your OM616 does not have rubber o-rings like his OM602.

Seems like a short lifespan to me but USLD is still relatively new and perhaps this is what we will come to expect of Buna....?

My 606 has 2-3 times as many orings as yours. All but the DV's were changed to viton 3 years ago and its doing fine.

Yeah. I got whatever they had at the MB dealer. I don't know what the compound was. I know they started leaking pretty quickly after I started using ULSD regularly. Could be I torqued them a little too tight. I know I am a pretty high mile driver but so are several others on the forum!

Perhaps you can do what I did; take an original oring to a bearing/seal specialist and ask for a set of Viton orings; they will cost you about 20cents each and will be way better than the Buna rubber orings coming from the stealership. Even with ULSD, they will last a long time.

The dealers stock is Buna.

Go to fryerpower.com (a forum member) and get a viton set for your engine. I do beleive they last longer.
