Quick water pump question, car is up on jacks!

My 85 300SD is up in the air and I'm fixing the water pump. I've got the new pump ready to go on, but I am just wondering if the gasket that comes with the pump is sufficient.

Thanks,

Alex

Yes, just make sure they gave you the right one. Also clean the mating surface & remove all of the old gasket before installation.

You may want to use anti-seize compound.

Thanks alot guys! That's what I figured. Now if I can just get those bolts loose to tension the belts, I might just get back on the road.

Just finished the same job yesterday! GLAD it's done...WHEWee!

I prolly did the WRONG thing though -

When I took out the old bolts holding the pump on the housing they just didn't *seem* tight enough AND they were fairly rusty. SO I bought new bolts (grade 8.8, ever-so-slightly shorter than the originals by not more than 2mm) then put a *dab* of blue thread locker. Since the old ones seemed to be 'not very tight' I figured it couldn't hurt. Thoughts, comments?

I replaced my water pump last week. After wire wheeling the bolts i put a dab of silicone on them. A couple of the bolts are in contact with the coolant in the pump housing, so you want to make sure they are sealed. I dont think the threadlock will hurt any.
