'82 300DT: Best way to heat cold engine? Block or lower hose heater?

This is my first diesel. Which is more effective at heating the engine in winter? Price is almost a wash and installation favors the hose heater.

Lower radiator hose is not quite as efficient as a block heater but ease of installation of the hose heater wins the day.
In my experience, oil pan heaters are not worth a pinch of **** in a fertilizer factory, except as diesel fuel tank warmers.

x2.

If you already have a block heater but no cord you can buy a new one from the dealer for around $40.
