engine block drain

Where is the engine block drain on a 617 (coolant flush)? Wagon. Turbo. Can I get to it without removing engine parts?

You can get to it from the top of the engine - it helps to remove the air intake tube and even the turbo intake tube. It is on the block about even with the starter.

I think it is a 17mm bolt?

Much easier this way than going underneath and getting coolant in every opening on your head!

It's just in front of the starter. I think it's 19mm

I bought a pan at Homedepot, 3 ft X 2 ft black poly. some kind of mixing pan, ends sort of curve up. it`s over in the building supply side,

slide it under and you will catch about allthe coolant. I didn`t get it on me. think I loosened it, then reached in and unscrewed it.
I probably jacked up the car and removed the R/F wheel for better access. been a while.

pretty straight forward once you see the plug forward of the starter

On our cars with a turbo, can you really get to that plug from the top???? I took a look and didn't think there was any way. I sure would prefer that to a good rust-water drenching.
I need to do it quick as Smash only has ick-water in the radiator and block......

I don't think so. Time for your shower. ;)
