the leak doesn't seem to be coming from the primer pump but the brass nut's in front of it

I dunno, maybe you should try Diesel fuel...just a thought...from what I have read from many of the others here using alternative fuel it seems that algae really blooms in that stuff and makes for a bad time for all. I know, I know it also occurs in diesel quite often, so even straight diesel can/will have this problem.
Once you get algae, be prepared to use the biocide and replace your filters fairly frequently until you clear. May not be a bad idea to drain your diesel fuel tank and replace the tank strainer too. Depends on how bad your case may be...or how handy you are. Good advice is to be persistent with your treatment and maintenance and then be patient with the results. Also, consider using a different, high volume filling station or truck stop to preclude introducing more algae in your tank. (When it happened to me I quietly and politely informed my station manager so they were alerted of the issue too - the manager, not the clerk) Good luck
