No block heater?
From what I was told, the PO of my 82 W126 purchased the car from Mississippi or Alablama. I can't remember which. It does not have a block heater cord and the area where the block heater normally is located is covered by a cap. I haven't had a chance to look inside yet, but I remember reading a thread that stated that there might be a block heater under the cap. Has anyone else seen this? It was 30 degrees in NC this morning and my car doesn't like the cold and neither do I.

I thought that only the 603s came with a capped block heater if you didn't have the free/optional cord installed. If so, it is a black plastic cap about the size of a water hose cap.

I might have been looking in the wrong place. My research has discovered that it is further back on the block, just above the starter mount. I will look again when I get home. Fortunately, I have a cord from the parts car.

It is behind the arm from the engine that mounts to the frame. Almost all the way to the back of the engine. It is really hard to see unless you get under the car. The air filter housing and turbo/exhaust are in the way.
You are correct that it is above the starter, but you really need to get underneath to see. You could always feel around with your hand but don't do it on a hot engine...ask me how I know!
