starting issue 79 300d

i have a 79 300d that is making a screeching kinda sound (the one the seat belt buzzer makes but more like its dying). the sound comes on when i turn the key to the glow plug light position. the starter makes no attempt at turning over either.
i put the battery on my trickle charger to see if maybe it was a dead battery but no luck.
the car has not been driven in like 2 weeks since there is another car parked behind me and that one gets taken out any way. i wanted to start to get it ready for the winter and was going to the storre when this happened.
if any one ahas any suggestions as to where i should look i would be greatly appreciative
thank you all in advance

Weak Battery?

ok, so I'm hearing you say the battery ain't dead, right? Cuz it sure sounds like a weak battery to me. Have you tried jumping it? If you do, make sure the other vehicle has a battery similar to the Benz otherwise you won't have enough CCA to turn it.

You need to try a battery from another car. It is becoming more common for batteries to separate internally and go just 99% DEAD all at once.

If you have no battery to test with, pull the battery and take it to Sears or somewhere the sell batteries. They will test it for free.
