OM606 glow plug replacement takes turn for the worst
Well 3 of the plugs came out easily. #3 is hiding behind some bell like thing on the injector pump. #5 isn't going to be touched until I can figure out what to do with #6 - the one that gave up the fight and snapped. It was surprising because it was under a lot less torque than the other 3 that came out.
Any ideas on how to get this thing out without taking the head off?

You'll prob need to pull the oil filter housing.
Here's how another member got his #6 out. http://alan.mcreynolds.googlepages.com/howtoremovebrokenglowplugs-mercedesom606 You might want to pull #5 and stick a stud in the hole to hlep you with alignment when drilling.

Best of luck to you. I continue on this arduous job tomorrow... Tapping the #6 broken plug and attempting a pull.

I lucked out and for now the #6 plug functions, but it is just a matter of time before it goes.

To answer a earlier post of yours, Evan had one uniquely wired up so that it wound't trip the CEL. A diesel version of hanging chad.

Haha - I found that post searching the archives. I am going to get everything together to bore and pull the plugs that do not want to come out.

Yeah, I'll be picking back up on this project later today when it warms up. We had about a week and a half of cold temperatures and I haven't touched it in a while. I plan on using the "Mcreynol" style of GP removal but I may also try to incorporate a slide hammer into the equasion.
Latest bad news is that the person trying to do the repair drilled the GP out to nearly 3/8" which makes it nearly all gone. I hope there's something to tap into...
