W123 Electrical Gremlin - turn signals possessed

this one is very strange, took the 300D out tonight , thinking she was all back together and ready to go, that is until I tried the turn signal. left turn results in blinking of right turn and both back turns
up to right , nothing. The 4 way works as it should, out of the circuit and nothing works, took it apart figuring a short there, no luck same results. High beam light is out on left and little blue light is out on dash,
COuld all this be from combination switch? Or some other gremilin, do not really know where to look
Help!

Did you do anything prior to this? Could be the relay, it's under the center console, before the gated shifter, on the left side, assuming your 300D is an '81 and younger model. Models prior to that had the relay below the hazard switch itself.

I dont think it is the relay, the hazzard works fine.
what did I do prior??, well the car was in a million pieces so could be a lot of areas , just trying to get consensus on where to start
I am thinking before it get to hazzard switch??

bump this one is very confusing.
I clean up the combo stalk and results now find the positioned in both left and right turn mode all 4 lights blink, front and back, just like if I turn on the 4 way
How can I take the 4 way out of the sytem to see if stalk is ok, can I jumper some of the leads??

If the it all worked before it was taken apart, then I would not be chasing the combo switch.

The Haynes manual actually has a wiring diagram. It's got to be the most useful part of that manual.

I see...do you have a spare combo switch to test with? IIRC it is one of the worstthings to take apart and re-assemble with good results.

check your ground wires.. make sure you didnt miss any. Sounds like you have a feedback problem where your voltage is being redirected through the system instead of to ground.

locating ground

Can you tell me where your ground short was? I'm having similar trouble chasing down weird electrical issues and suspect faulty ground. I've cleaned and checked the multiple grounds behind the guages, the grounds at the front right and rear right for the lights; can't find any others...
