Thumbs up No need for electricity on older Benzes

Folks,

My '85 300D is the newest Benz that I have owned, so I don't know about newer models.....however....W123 (OM 616 and 617 engines) are all mechanical and will run until the vehicle runs out of fuel.

My '84 190D 2.2 (OM 601) will also run until the fuel runs out.....and because it's a 5 speed....it will even start without electricity.....park on a nice hill and you're good to go!!!

SB

I did the drive on the 300sd from Jackson MS to Dallas Tx with a fried alternator. I had to charge diesel twice at truck stops were nobody would say anything about a running vehicle being filled up. The last leg of the trip was very difficult (Tyler Tx to Dallas), it was pouring and wipers stopped working, also it was getting dark. I crossed Dallas then without headlights and wipers, under the rain... But the car got me home!
