WOW! That's a nice car!
So over the past few days, I have had a few... interesting encounters! Just today, I came out of the Mc D's to find my car surrounded by 3 older ladies looking it over, when they saw me approaching, about to get in they asked "is that your car?" When I said yes, the head old lady went on how she loved it and she always wanted one. As I fired it up and rolled down the window, she shouted "Beautiful car!"
Later tonight, I took it on the 115 mile trip between Wilkes-Barre, and Philladelphia and the toll taker at exit 105 took the ticket, stopped for a few seconds to look the car over, and asked me "what year is that", I told him, it's an 85 and he replied, wow, that's in nice shape! I took off again and wondered... Do all TD's get this sort of attention? This is not an isolated incident either. Almost every day I take the car out, I get at least 1 person telling me how much they like the car. At the post office 3 days ago, as I was pulling out, totally random... someone shouted "awesome car!" Typical? http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/DSCF4210.jpg |
I get similar reactions and comments when Im driving my 300SDl :)
|
yep --- the classic cars always get a "nod", "wave", or some type of achknowledgment.
|
Yep, people are forever coming up to wife, and her 300SD, saying, "if you ever want to sell that car, call me"
|
I always get comments on my car, and sometime they want to buy it. I think that happens to everyone with a nice W123.
|
Not in California. They are everywhere... you basically blend in with everyone else. Totally different from when I lived in Wisconsin, where I would get a lot of comments about my car.
|
More so recently than in past years, probably because they are getting rarer.
Even with crap paint the SDL always draws compliments. Just got another today as it was sitting at the top of the dock as I was pumping out my friends boat. |

I don't really get too much response to any of my Mercedes. [that might say something about my Mercedes] :o:o
Now, if I take the '67 Camaro out, sheesh!!!!! |
You have a really nice TD, congratulation.

One of my friends seems to think it's the color that does it. I don't know about that one, though it really does seem to have a very nice contrast between the chrome/aluminum trim and the color of the car. Seems to really stand out sharply, especially with the roof rails.
Have to say I really do like the car. The performance & handling..... :o well you all know. But it looks fantastic :D |
True story. Had my 39 buick resto rod years ago at a car show. Three really older girls were looking in the rear suicide door with it open.
One said to the others do you remember back seats as large as this one. The others confirmed they did with fond memories. I just happened to be within earshot but they really did not care. They never checked the headliner for foot prints. :D I wanted to agree the back seat of this car was definatly a pre cramps model. |
I've had some compliments before, but my car is starting to show its age after the six years I've had it even with regular detailing as its parked outside. I read the lips of a younger lady in a car next to me once, while she thought I wasn't looking, say "nice car" with her eyes wide open. I had to look around to be sure there wasn't some other object of her momentary affection, but there wasn't, so it was cool. Otherwise, its really just a cool battleaxe. Your wagon looks great though, isn't that the one you got that great deal on?

Gotta have the right color...
I have a nice 84 300TDT....wagon...similar to that pictured...BUT...I really do not like the color...Gold!....I think the official name is "champagne".
The 123 wagons look particularly nice in maroon, as above, but I would give my eye teeth to have a really nice euro wagon in that pumkin orange color, with "hounds tooth" fabric interior...oh yes...and I'd like it to have a standard tranny, and I would really like it to have that OE "safari rack" for the roof (I only saw this once on ebay...in england...it went for about 300 or 400 bucks!) But my wagon in gold just doesnt cut it...the color reminds me of a pontiac or buick from the sixties! I do like the car though. Mark |
