Yep, people are forever coming up to wife, and her 300SD, saying, "if you ever want to sell that car, call me"

I always get comments on my car, and sometime they want to buy it. I think that happens to everyone with a nice W123.

Not in California. They are everywhere... you basically blend in with everyone else. Totally different from when I lived in Wisconsin, where I would get a lot of comments about my car.

More so recently than in past years, probably because they are getting rarer.
Even with crap paint the SDL always draws compliments. Just got another today as it was sitting at the top of the dock as I was pumping out my friends boat.

One of my friends seems to think it's the color that does it. I don't know about that one, though it really does seem to have a very nice contrast between the chrome/aluminum trim and the color of the car. Seems to really stand out sharply, especially with the roof rails.
Have to say I really do like the car. The performance & handling..... ![]() ![]() |

True story. Had my 39 buick resto rod years ago at a car show. Three really older girls were looking in the rear suicide door with it open.
One said to the others do you remember back seats as large as this one. The others confirmed they did with fond memories. I just happened to be within earshot but they really did not care. They never checked the headliner for foot prints. ![]() |

I've had some compliments before, but my car is starting to show its age after the six years I've had it even with regular detailing as its parked outside. I read the lips of a younger lady in a car next to me once, while she thought I wasn't looking, say "nice car" with her eyes wide open. I had to look around to be sure there wasn't some other object of her momentary affection, but there wasn't, so it was cool. Otherwise, its really just a cool battleaxe. Your wagon looks great though, isn't that the one you got that great deal on?

Gotta have the right color...
I have a nice 84 300TDT....wagon...similar to that pictured...BUT...I really do not like the color...Gold!....I think the official name is "champagne".
The 123 wagons look particularly nice in maroon, as above, but I would give my eye teeth to have a really nice euro wagon in that pumkin orange color, with "hounds tooth" fabric interior...oh yes...and I'd like it to have a standard tranny, and I would really like it to have that OE "safari rack" for the roof (I only saw this once on ebay...in england...it went for about 300 or 400 bucks!) But my wagon in gold just doesnt cut it...the color reminds me of a pontiac or buick from the sixties! I do like the car though. Mark
