There's lots of good glass there too.

winmutt 11-11-2008 10:46 AM

I called them and asked about 5 speeds :)

Dee8go 11-11-2008 10:51 AM

Horrors! Is there nothig that can be done?

It seems like this woman could be convinced of the value of these cars for parts. I don't know how things look from the owner's perspective, but surely they're worth a lot more as parts cars than as scrap metal.

Where is that, anyway? I used to live in Louisville, but never heard of Falmouth.

POS 11-11-2008 11:34 AM

Looks like a bunch of old junk to me. Finding a w123/w124/w126 fender isn't difficult, you know the interiors on those things have to be shot, and I'd bet most of the engines aren't worth saving. It'd be nice to have someone of MB interest go through it just before crushing to ensure nothing worthwhile gets trashed, but from what I'm seeing in the pics, most of it is just plain old MBs that were left to die in a field.

pawoSD 11-11-2008 12:24 PM

The most important thing is probably to convince the owner of the parts value of all those cars....theres some good looking classic stuff sitting out there!

tobybul 11-11-2008 12:35 PM

What are we gonna do about!!!!!:eek::eek:

Lets rent a semi, bring tools and start dismantling!!!!!;););)

Yeah! Imagine an army of forum members, 100+ strong, armed with hundreds of tool boxes and a semi trailer ready to be filled! :D :D :D That'd be quite a sight!

tobybul 11-11-2008 12:54 PM

Remember the picture floating around in web showing a bus overflowing with people? I'm having those visions on the way to KY....:D

Can't find it in google though:(

having parted cars from a field in Ohio Im inclined to agree. one winter and summer in the tall grass will lay to waste anything of value. and critters love to nest in old field cars too so you can write off the interiors before wasting gas money there. maybe, if you can pick the mud out of the tranny or rears they might be ok if you have time and liquid wrench, engines probably not so much, they will be rusted solid and the bolts will just break off.

56speedster 11-11-2008 01:05 PM

i just called them and.....

the lady that answered the phone said that was not true. she reassured me that they were not crushing the cars..

if i find out otherwise i'll drive to the yard as i'm about 2.5 hrs away.

someone else could call them and see what they find out....

the number is 859-654-8632

bgkast 11-11-2008 01:48 PM

Trim pieces, glass and special brackets would still be fine

babymog 11-11-2008 01:52 PM

If there were just one 416 Unimog DOKA there, ...

LUVMBDiesels 11-11-2008 02:03 PM

If I had room, I would go for a finny or two.

Also it looked like there was an Adenauer or two

maybe depending on how long it has been there, but the combination of cool nights and humidity there can pit chrome in a year. brackets and engine condition would depend on the condition before they were parked. if it happened to have bad oil leaks that would help it in this case. dont get me wrong, I would do a walk through, but I would keep my expectations low.

winmutt 11-11-2008 04:19 PM

I got a call back no 5spds.

meltedpanda 11-11-2008 05:10 PM

I will be driving by there next weeK. I have talked to this yard several times, I dont think this is true, he has a good business.
Dieseldog you out there? do you know?

Yeah there is nothing left of those cars. Someone who knows what they are looking at should probably go through them just in case they try to crush some rare AMG bits, or 15in bundts.

It would be nice to come across something like that, I'd take one of those euro bumpers off for my car if I could get it for free.

Mister Byrnzoil 11-11-2008 07:41 PM

The bottom has fallen out of the scrap markets, now is not the time to indiscriminately crush. Steel and iron prices are down 80% in the last 5 months.

hanno 11-11-2008 07:53 PM

There are no 5 spds because they found a good home (although not free). One of them is the 87 5 spd conversion in signature below :D I purchased conversion "kit" from previous owner of the yard. Bernard included every bolt, nut and clip, plus some other parts I didn't even know I had to have.

C Sean Watts 11-11-2008 08:35 PM

I have a class A license.

Whoever wants to rent a semi...I'll drive. Just give me dibs on a #22 603 head.

Time to buy a chunk of land and run our own Mercedesshop.com junkyard. :)

Strife 11-11-2008 10:47 PM

I've been there, and the place is real, and the people are nice. I picked up some very nice unmarked 6.5" Bundts (probably spares) there, at a good price. I saw two skids(!) of not-so nice bundts going to scrap for aluminum.

The flood they had was unbelievable. It's in a narrow valley and the line on the wall may have been 9-12 ft high from the building, which is considerably above the street!

jt20 11-11-2008 10:55 PM

I forgot about that. So all those cars have been submerged? shame.

True, also on the plus side, the number of strong arm robberies at the scrapyards in Philly have really dropped off.

mobetta 11-12-2008 12:06 PM

yeah- scrap cars here are down to $40/ ton from $210 / ton this summer.

redassag00 11-12-2008 04:17 PM

They updated the story that the lady that owns the junkyard is not selling any of the cars.

Kthxbai.

jt20 11-12-2008 04:21 PM

it was then updated again, after that.

Update: We just heard from Rebecca, owner of European Connection (the junkyard in the photos), and she states "I took the business over, over a year ago and I am not selling nor am I crushing." So, big sigh of relief for the uncrushed Mercedes-Benzes!
Yet another update: These cars and parts are for sale after all. Call European Connection at 800-395-8636 or email Rebecca.
