stalling problem

My 1984 300D had developed a stalling problm; so my worthy trusted mechaninc said that the engine wasnt getting enough gas because there was a leak in the fuel system, consequently causing the engine to stall. So we replaced the fuel lines, fuel filter and fuel pump. I needed to clean out the fuel system aswell, to get it running in its optimum performance level. So i added half a bottle of snap diesel fuel system treatment to give it a boost. The problem; the car still stalls. It may correct itself as the fuel system becomes cleaner, but im not so sure. What eles could the problem be.

Air in the injection system is the usual cause of diesel stalling if it otherwise runs correctly.

Check to make sure all the lines are fixed, too -- MB like to use short bits of flexible fuel lines in funny places like at the turn of the floorpan that one doesn't always see -- my 220D was leaking fuel like crazy and it took a while to find the problem.

And the steel lines can also rub thourgh in the clamps or anywhere else the intermittantly contact another steel surface. One of my mechanic's customers traded in a 300SDL for that very reason -- $50 fix to replace a section of steel line.....!

If you don't have a fuel puddle, park the car on steep hill, nose down, so that the tank is higher than the fuel pump. This will cause the fuel to leak out of a bad line rather than back into the tank!
