Help - W126 Outside Temp Reading...

More help needed ---- On my recently purchased 85 300SD...the outside temp reading is displayed in C, not F. I failed to learn the metric system many years ago in school, so I can't do the quick conversion, nor do I really want to --- Can this be changed? If so, PLEASE help - it's driving me nuts....

Go to the dealer or call Phil and get a new display. Personaly I think it adds character.

Your comment about adding character is well received, and makes sense --- or should I say, causes a little guilt!

So tell me this --- what's the mulitplier to easily convert to Fahrenheit? My work travels take me from Upper Carolina into the Northern states, and I like to monitor outside temp, especially in the winter months when precipitation is in the area.

Many thanks...

Thanks 'Sixto' -- Even being from Upper Carolina I can remember and use that one easily! OK -- so just did a quick conversion from when I came in a couple of hours ago ---- It was 49.1 degrees F. Which is in line with weather bug on my computer...now reading 47. Thanks again..

Since you're converting your font to Trebuchet then you shouldn't have a problem converting your ''C'' to ''F''.....

Easier for me to remember

and do in my head

Tx2 -10% + 32

Not exact, but pretty close

Example 20C

20x2 = 40-4 = 36+32 = 68F

Example 30C
30x2 = 60-6 = 54+32 = 86F

Works!

C to F "Conversion" isn't too bad.
0C = 32F = Brrrrr
22C = 70F = Comfortable (The same as what is on your ACC pushbutton controller)
40C = 104F = Texas in August

Think of "C = 20* steps from cold to comfortable to hot

Does anyone know if the 126 display would fit into a 123 cluster? I've wanted to put a outside temp display in my 123, and think a stock MB display would be much cooler than an aftermarket one.

There would be two major hurdles to overcome. The W123 has a speedometer cable and an oil line for a mechanical oil pressure guage. Where as the W126 has an electronic speedometer and a sending unit for oil pressure.

You might be able to modify the W123 cluster to accept just the outside temp display at the bottom.

Best bet would be to find a W126 in the junkyard and strip the display, wiring and the sensor. The display is long enough so that it reached through the cluster. It also has a curve in it to accommodate the cluster shape.

I've never seen that formula???

LOL

I use C = F - 32 / 1.8 or F = C X 1.8 + 32.

Take C, double it, take off 5 or 6 degrees and add 32. Not perfect but gets you close.

I'm looking forward to the day that I have everything so well in hand on mine that I could actually notice such a niggling detail as the outside temp reading . . . . .
