My CDI's check engine light on...any ideas

Today I turned the key and waited for the glow plug light to go off, usually it's almost instant but today it just stayed on...
After 10 sec I turned the key and engine fired up as usual but the glow emblem did not go away, then check engine light appeared..
I drove the car no problem, parked and then restarted it again, the glow light operated like usual but the check engine light never went away.
Should I be concerned? I have 98k miles on my E320 2005 CDI.

If there's a way to reset the check engine light (disconnect battery for a while?) I'd do that. Maybe it "thought" there was an error with the glow plug system and flagged it. Or maybe you have a bad glow plug.

Should be OBD II compliant. Any OBD II reader should give you a clue if not the precise code.

sounds about right to have glow plugs failing at that mileage

Is it a big PITA to replace the glow plugs on a CDI?
Do all of them fail at once or is it maybe 1 or 2 that give off a bad reading?

Give it a day and a half and see if the CEL resets itself on its own after 3 cold/hot run cycles.

If not, get the code(s) read and deal with it.

O'reilly's

Stop in at your local parts house and ask them if they will check your codes...Most O'reilly's and A-Zone have the OBD II readers and many will do it for you if they are not too busy...OR you can get a reader using their rent/borrow plan and DIY.
Either way, If the glow plugs have not been replaced, I'd do them all while you are in there as preventive maintenance.

its a bad glow plug. Checking the faults will tell you which one it is or you can check the resistance of each of them and the faulty one will be much higher then the rest of them. You can replace them one at a time if you wish as long as you have a way to reset the check engine light. Disconnecting the battery won't reset it.

Read the codes go from their. As said above its probably a bad GP or two. Personaly since they have been in their awhile I would replace all 6 and ream them. That way you shouldn't have to drill one out in the future.

I don't think disconnecting the battery will do much on the new cars, you actualy have to read, fix and reset the code.

As far as replacing is concerned, I think it's about as easy as the 606 but it's subject to the same risks of breakage so you have to be really careful not to over torque them on removal.

What do CDI plugs look like anyway? The engine itself looks like a 606 so are CDI owners in the same boat?
