California vs. non-California car

I am looking for a 300D or 300TD and since I live in California, will probably end up buying a California car.

What are the differences between CA and non-CA cars and should I be concerned? Anything special to look out for on a CA car?

Thanks,
Bob

You've got a pretty decent chance of finding a car that isn't the CA setup. In all the Mercedes Diesels I've owned or come across here in San Diego, only a few were the CA set up.

Differences pretty much only in 84 and 85 emission equipment. Parts abound to convert Calif to federal and vice versa.

85 models with the TrapOx (1985 300D/CD/TD/SD) are really the only ones to watch out for. The ARV on the turbo is the only significant change to the Kali models in 84. Simply plugging its vacuum tube will revert it to federal standards.

Be sure to check the underside of the car.
