UGLY EGR infested Intake

Not for the Faint of Heart!

This is for:
1.Everyone who's never seen the inside of your intake tract.
2.Those who are not convinced of the disablement/hampering effect of the EGR.

Picture #:
1.Looking down into the "Flapper / EGR pipe" past the EGR opening
(on the Right) at the super clean lower portion of the pipe beneath the EGR.
2.As Above [The walls of the lower pipe and the Turbocharger Compressor
Wheel have a very thin film of oil from the "Mist" that's sucked in from the
Valve Cover Pressure Relief Tube.It is the usual old black Diesel Oil, just that
the film is so thin the color isn't visible.]
(You can see the "Flapper" in both of the above pictures. It's wide open
and encrusted)
3.'Looking inside the Intake with the Crossover Pipe removed...The Crap is
4mm thick.

There is no way the Pressure Sensor N66 can "SENSE" anything!
The Pipe that feeds pressure to the ALDA and the EDS Sensor is totally
occluded.
I'm going to bet the Vintage of the Obstruction is at least 15 years ago...
maybe the whole 18 years.

That's nothing. Just a lill goop, not really restricting airflow any.

Light driving on an early VW TDI can yield this after 80,000 miles:

The EGR is inactive on both of my cars

Yikes! I bet you the driver thought he was doing the engine a favor too.

some spots inside the intake mani were 1/2 inch thick. Deespest deposits on the intake valves were usually 1/8 inch at the base of the stem. Why do people use Seafoam to send this stuff into their cylinders??

They don't. When put in the fuel it has zero contact with the intake area. If used in the intake it will pre-ignite as well as accelerate the engine.

Water/alcohol injection theoretically helps clean this stuff out. AFAIK sending a few clumps of carbon through the cylinders doesn't bother these cars(since it's usually a one-time purging)

That's no my car, my intake was about as goopy as the OPs at 150,000. There's a reason I only get 44 MPG.

I thought I read a few posts where owners attempted this through the intake. What is all the smoke from when it is run through the system properly?

I'm just curious if seafoam works after looking at my audi tt with the 1.8T engine it was coated with brown residue what i could see thru the valve cover where u put oil in so after using amsoil super 0w30 i was going to switch to total 504/507 i poured a can of it in the engine ran for bout 20 and drained it not sure but i got tons of oxidized crud that'd been collecting i guess? just curious if it actually does anything to intake depoists any first hand proof..

Hey, that is carbon that did not make it back into the air... the system is working as designed
