I had my TE and a friend bought a new 5-series wagon at the same time. The difference in refinement: road noise, bump-steer, engine noise, smoothness of power delivery etc., put the Mercedes in a whole higher class than the BMW wagon IMO. Performance by the numbers was quite close, but in the Mercedes it doesn't scream about it.

Tyler, you're an idiot and you'll regret it forever, ... NOT. The 123 is IMO a lot more fun to look at, but I could never bring myself to buy one after driving them (I used to be a Mercedes salesman). When the 124 came out, Mercedes finally went from a curious classic to a modern automobile.

As far as gas vs diesel, ... I prefer diesel but I'm driving the gasser around, much cheaper and the extra power is addicting. Now if I can get used to not waiting to crank the engine.

I couldn't sleep at night if I sold it for that much...

I believe that is his entire budget to have a wagon ship shape for a cross country drive.

Yep thats exactly it! I was willing to pay 5K for exactly what Norm is a prime example of a 300TD, and once Norm gets here and I put some work in to him (like the evil servo) that grand total will probably be right at 5K to have him cross country ready.

I'm sorry you feel that way. If done properly, like the way I'm doing it, Norm will be fine. If you want to discuss that, please move in to my project thread, not here. Thanks.

Norm isn't a prime example, what unrestored 30 year old car is, but he certainly looks great. Colin will make him even better.

Tyler,

Seriously, good luck with the '95. I am jealous. I cannot believe how good Norm looks next to the newer car. That ol' W123 has a ton of class! However, having more modern features like ABS and airbags is a huge plus.

We did that transition a few years ago when we sold our 1981 300TD and acquired the 1990 300TE. Needless to say, sometimes I look back at that old wagon and realize the one we have is so much fresher than the one we let go, it was worth it. However, I can feel your pain especially if you've grown attached to the car for a long time.

Hey Tyler, maybe you should give the new wagon a Star Trek name.

How about "Geordi" since this wagon has given your MB obsession new "vision" ... or "DATA" since it's more efficient and streamlined than your old wagon.

It needs a girly name... Deanna... Majel... Beverly... Christine, like nurse Chapel.

Ahh yes ... Beverly Crusher ... and Tyler is Jean Luc Picard. They have an unspoken love and respect for each other.

EDIT: Or B'Elanna. That one has no significance other than it's Star Trek and sounds cool.

Excelsior???

That would be a rapid departure from my usual names, but.... I'm going to drive the new wagon in a bit and see how it feels.

Hey, I still have hair, and am not a Frenchman with a British accent.

You guys do see my Avatar, right?

Beverly Crusher, blah. Too much baggage... I couldn't be a father to that stupid little boy...

Here's what I want to assimilate. Macroprobe her Nanoprobes if you will...
