What is the most bad glow plugs anybody has had at once?
I changed the glows on my 83 240/300d today because it was getting hard to start.
All five were shot! Is this a record? |
That's pretty impressive ... I had four out of six shot on the 603 and it wouldn't start in 50-degree weather. And that was not long after I had a compression text come up A-OK. Of course I had all 6 plugs replaced at that point.

Had 3/4 on a 240D once in the winter and it was hard to start.... but still started!

I'm doubting the latter.........or, you'd have been through a battery or two by now. |
Shot as in when I tested them they did not produce any heat at all. I did not hurt my battery but the car would not start even after I ran the block heater. My expereince is they either glow or they do not. These did not.
I suppose it was when the last one failed that it stopped starting! |

I had a hard time starting one evening at work, I figured I had a bad plug or two. The next day I tried starting it in the morning (after being plugged in all night) and it wouldn't start, all 5 were bad.

Its pretty hard to start that way!
|
I had all 5 bad 2 winters ago.
everything was just fine, went on an overnight road trip(100 miles each way) and got up in the morning to 5*F temps, no go- tested and replaced all 5. of course that would happen away from my garage, but at least I had 90% of the tools I needed along with. I think I had to buy a cheepo 8 mm wrench. since then I have replaced all of them.(bosch duraterm- france) |
I had 4,then a bad regulator causing my alt. to put out 16 volts, burnt all 5 bosch duratherms.New Gp. relay, then 5 new Beck an Arnley good.Except for #1 cylinder that needs a new one once a month now.
I need to do valve seals, and put Monark tipped injectors. |

I mix 1 part gasoline to 3 parts burnt motor oil.And spray the hell out of my vehicles, just in case I have to run in the salt. Its nasty the first rain, but it takes care of tailgaters.
