92 300d 2.5 fuel/air leak assistance
 

the hose that comes from the filter and goes into the engine (the ip?) has a problem. there is a little elbow at the bottom. the hose attaches to the top, and the bottom has a funny flange on it. the flange is behind a few pins that hold it in place. mine spins now, and i assume it's not supposed to. i've got an air leak which doesn't allow me to start.

anyone know what i'm talking about? it's a funny looking part. if it were a banjo bolt set up i could just tighten it, but it doesn't look like i can tighten it.

how do i fix this?

looks like it may be the primer pump assembly? until i get photos up, maybe that will shed some light?

Maybe you mean the lift pump? A 2.5 doesn't have a separate manual primer pump unless a previous owner got creative.

That's the fuel thermostat. It's pretty common for the o-ring to fail. Disconnect and cork the fuel lines attached to it, remove the fuel thermostat from the engine bay, undo the circlip around the plastic fitting, extract the plastic fitting, replace the o-ring, put it back together. Might be a good time to replace old and brittle fuel hoses. The o-ring is available from any MB dealer though you might consider a viton replacement if you're running biodiesel.

edit - [Before you remove anything...] Clean the area and observe over a couple of days to be sure that's the source of the leak. Might be dripping from above.

Your car will run with the fuel thermostat bypassed but it's good to have it functioning this time of year. It might be redundant if you have a full-time heater with your Frybrid kit.
