Rear View Mirror

Hi,

I just got a new rear view mirror for my 300D and I can figure out how to remove the old one from my car. Could some with the Chassis and Body manual tell me how to remove the rear view mirror attached to the roof of the car. I see the two pins on my new one but don't understand how to access this part with the mirror tightly mounted to car roof.

Help,

Morph

Morph:

Take hold of the "stem" of the mirror (not the mirror itself) and pull sharply down and back. It just snaps in. Very handy. Also snaps out instead of ramming a hole in your head in an accident! Standard MB safety feature for at least 33 years.

Got it off in a snap..but

I got the think off in a snap, but their must be another trick to getting it back on. I can't seem to generate enough force to get the pins past the metal insert.

Help again,

Of course, it helps to put one side/pin in at a time....

I just went through replacing the rearview mirror in my 87 300SDL. To remove it, everyone is correct in saying to grasp the mirror stem and pull strongly. It will just come right out.

Reinstalling the new one was a bit more difficult. I took a medium-sized flat blade screwdriver and notched a small "V" in the center of blade end. The "V" reduces the likelihood of stabbing yourself because it slipped off. Then tilt the mirror about 30 degrees and put one side in. Once the one end is in, press in on the other spring loaded pin using the screwdriver and at the same time (while pressing in), snap the mirror into place. It will probably take a few tries, but it'll go in. Just be patient with it.

Good Luck!
