Monark Metal Heavy-duty primer pump

What do you all make of this?

http://mercedes source.com/node/4773

Note: I do not endorse, or even like mercedes source, so don't tell me they suck.

Get rid of the spaces in the link. I guess you can't post links to other mercedes websites now

It's the "Right" brand... (Price is Good, Too)

If my "Lift Pump" had a Primer Pump option I'd try it.
When You want the Primer ,You want it to work...AND that unit looks HD enough
and we know Monark makes good Injectors...

I have that pump

My car has that pump but I don't know how old it is as it was on there when I bought the car. I preferred the pump to the Bosch pump simply because of the nice large handle that was easy to grab and also that it looks way better than a plastic knob down there. Unfortunately mine is shot as it leaks when pumping and it appears that the plating on the shaft is coming off. When you screw the handle down it seals right up. Since I don't know how long it lasted it's hard to have an opinion on the durability. If the pump was rebuildable it would be the best ever.

The clearance to fit a wrench while installing or removing the pump is a bit thin and my Craftsman wrench heads were barely too thick. Fortunately the wrench from the toolkit in the trunk fit just fine.

My experience exactly - on car when I bought it - leaked while pumping - replaced with original from pick and pull.

Everything monarch i've gotten has far exceeded my expectations i'd say they're at least as good as bosio having used them in my vw stuff. And not sure if i have "ultimate" one or not but the one i got couple years ago has worked like a champ it's monarch

I'm suprised you can't replace some O-rings in it.

I was wrong

Replaced my leaking pump last weekend and the old one was actually a Bosch pump that looks just like the Monark pump. The Bosch part number stamped on it is 2447222099. I'm guessing it was the updated style pump before the currently available updated style pump.

I could probably put some o-rings in it but the body appears pressed together and I don't think there is a way to take it apart non-destructively.

The top of the Aluminum tube on the older style primer pumps is rolled over inwards slightly and also acts as the stop to keep the primer plunger/handle from comming out.
Besides the speculated O-ring I suspect there is a rubber compression washer with a central hole at the bottom that is supposed to seal the plunger when you tighten it down. So 2 items would have to be changed.

I was going to build one of these out of my 'old' plastic primer pump; but the Bosch upgrade is pretty effective.
