Will a W123-gasser 5-speed fit a OM617/616?
Does anyone know if a 5-speed transmission from a W123 gasser will fit a OM617?
I see these for sale for no bucks at all and would like to get a five-speeder.. |
what side is the starter wart on?

i think the engine is almost identical, but with a different cam and cam towers, upper oil pan, and some other minor differences

If its from the M110 (280E/CE/TE), yes. If its from the M102 (230E/CE/TE, 190E 2.3/16V), M103 (190E 2.6), M123 (250/250T) or any OM60x diesel (190D 2.0/2.2/2.5), no.

Wish they could be had "for no bucks at all" on our side of the pond... |
Forced, thanks, that's exactly what I needed. Will look for M110-powered cars from now on. Went to the nearest yard on my lunch break today, they listed a W115/220D with a 5-speeder that came in just yesterday, but it was probably a typo since it had the standard 4-speeder. Bummer..
rcounts, well, not entirely free but manual transmissions go for a unit price of about $85 at yards if you pull it out. Entire parts cars can be found for about $250.. pull the tranny, sell whatever can be sold and scrap the rest and you'll almost have your tranny for free. |
