Speedo making noise

My 1984 300SD speedo is making a "chug" "chug" "chug" between 10-70 MPH, the faster i go the faster the noise make and soften, if i go 30 MPH it will be loud, but if i go 70 the sound just disappears, i am kind of stumped here because it dose not use cable and usually cable driven speedo makes those kind of noise, what could be wrong...

Try checking your speedo cable. There should be a cable that runs from the speedometer, through the firewall, to the transmission.

SDs don't have speedometer cables.

I just changed the gears on my 300sd and it is now making a similar noise.
I took it all apart again and cannot see any thing that might be causing the noise. Everything is clean and there is no apparent areas of rubbing or contact. I don't believe it is the gears. I am thinking it has to do with painting the needles but I don't know what that may have to do with it. Maybe they are heavier now? Anyway as I could not see a problem I am going to wait and see.

I dont think that paint would that much weight that would cost the needles it to chug. something else
