I would say all related.

There is a DIY link for the 606.962 DV's above. Yours is the same once the IM is off. DO clean it better than shown and DONT pull more parts out of the hole than absolutely needed to get to the crush washer.

I think your parking on a hill problem is an air leak in one of the O rings on the plastic fuel lines. Replace ALL of these O rings and it should go away. Be sure to get the ones on the prefilter. When you're on a hill air is leaking in and your IP is losing its prime causing the hard starts. This is my shot at what your problem is, others may correct me, and if I'm wrong I hope they do!

I've got a '97 e300 and mine was doing the exact same thing -- hard (impossible) starting on a slope due to the air leak. If you want, you can confirm it by filling up the tank with diesel and parking it downhill. It should leave a nice little puddle.

I am 3/4 of the way through replacing all of the clear fuel lines and hope to have the intake manifold back on tomorrow. The DIY article was helpful but, because it was regarding a turbo model, missed (or added) a couple of things than on a 96 or 97. I took pix and some notes. If you need assistance, drop me an email or PM. I'd be happy to share the parts list, diagrams, and pix I have assembled from all the searches I did. By the way, this forum rocks and it is one of the things I am thankful for (being in the spirit of Thanksgiving).

.....Dan
