Start with the bolt/nut at the top of the tensioner assembly plastic piece. Remove the nut. Now, see the hole in the top plastic piece? Put a long 3/8 extension (or equivalent) in that hole, push the extension (as a lever) downward toward the passenger side until the pressure on the bolt you just loosened is free, pull it out, and slowly let the extension/lever move back toward the driver's side of the car. Tensioner released.

I put a new alternator in and it works great now, 13.9v!
I really appreciate you guys encouraging me to replace it myself. I saved $400 off of what the shop wanted to fix it and I got to learn how the really cool belt tensioner works! |
