URGENT! HELP NEEDED! Norm is down!

Okay before I start, let me just say how thrilled I am to have Norm! I spend the evening driving him around, and it was a blast! But sadly that brought me to this...

While dropping a few friends off, Norms throttle assembly went kaput. The throttle "shaft" popped out of the little hold that holds it in place, and the little threaded bar closest to the firewall came undone on the drivers side (sorry my terms suck!). So everything came apart pretty much.

Anyway, a nice guy in a diesel Ford (saved by a Ford, oh man) pulled up asking if I needed help. I said sure, and he took a look for me a put it back together. He complimented Norm, by the way. Anyway, he said that this little piece was bent down and was the cause of the throttle shaft thing coming undone, so he bent it up. I started Norm, and gave him some gas and it worked. Cool!

Now as I drove away, I noticed that he was in 1st gear for a while. Drove faster and noticed that he wasn't shifting until RIGHT at redline. So I pulled over and tried to trouble shoot it. The little threaded bar thing was only holding on by a hair it seemed from where the threads were clean, and I had screwed it in pretty far. So I started messing with that to see if it helped the shifting at all, but it did not. I did this a few more times to no avail, still shifting at redline.

So my question is what would be causing this? Tyler just told me it might be a kickdown switch at the pedal that is stuck, so I'm going to go check that out in a minute. Also does that little threaded bar thing that I was messing with effect anything? Let me know what I can do! I'll take my laptop down and try and figure it out as I get responses!

Oh and please help me by correcting my terminology because I KNOW it's terrible, haha.

Thanks guys!

Here are some fancy pictures:

The top "bar" is the threaded bar thing I am talking about.

The little piece the guy bent for me.

The shaft in the first pic should be held in place via a c-clip. I had the exact same problem on Saturday, the clip broke and the rod going to the tranny wasn't moving when the pedal was and it wouldn't shift until redline. I replaced the clip and everything was back to normal.

^^Well I have Norm titled in my Signature, and as the title of this thread. I don't think it was a vacuum problem as it was fine right until it fell apart!

^^^Okay awesome, I thought there was something missing there! Glad that the same thing happened to you (well not really GLAD, but you get what I mean) so that I have someone to refer to!

Is there any way you can get me a picture of this so I know what to look for?

Also now that I know the culprit, I'm going to adjust that bar so it grabs more on the drivers side.

Wish me luck.

You mean on ANOTHER page ? I am on a dial up... I think the car identifying info should be on the same page as the question if one wants to encourage answers...

As to the vacuum potential of my first guess... if that linkage ...or getting it back up and fixed disturbed the lines... then something could have been displaced....
Titled in the thread title ? Are we supposed to know everyone's car specs from the car's Name ?
I still say : make it easy on those you would like information from. That is probably said in Larry Bible's sticky suggestions at the top of the page also...

Who sold you that pile anyway?

This happened to me once when I first got it, but it created no tranny issues. I just re-tightened everything and it shifted normally.

That C clip Mercy mentioned sounds right. You might also make sure you didn't knock off any vacuum lines when you were fiddling with it.

I edited this photo for you. See if you can slide the shaft(sounds so wrong) to the left and right, if so then the clip is missing.

I can't help with your immediate problem, but I notice that your injectors lines look a bit juicy. You should replace those soon.

Hmmmmmm after looking at the engine, now I don't know what to do haha. Everything seems to be moving fine!

Also here are more pictures. Can you like copy one and the circle the place the clip is supposed to be? I'm not familiar with this engine at ALL!

Engine bay

Okay, can you tell me where to put that clip from this picture?

Sorry it's blurry, but the left side of that "fork" is what the guy bent upwards.

This piece does NOT move, but I don't think that it should. Am I wrong?

Thanks for the help, hopefully I can get this sorted out, otherwise I'm going to have to drive Norm like this tomorrow. I have a photo shoot with him for my project =[

stuck in 1st gear....

Having had my "wife's car NOT" apparently "stuck" in 1st gear once.....I will chime in here.

The "kickdown" button switch behind the accelerator was stuck. So, colincoon, if you "kicked" Ol Norm down while showing off what he could do to your friend, his kickdown button might be stuck.

The cure (for Candy) was to lubricate. Then she was good to go! NOW, it's dawned on me why some of us "almost old farts" like to mess with cars -----

the c-clip isn't missing.

So if you went to drive it right now it won't shift gears until redline, correct? This all started when........ We're getting all confused here, or atleast I am...
