EMERGENCY!!!!! OM603 87' 300D wont turn over!

Hey guys my brother in law has a nice om603 that wouldnt start today. He is in L.A and im up north in Sac and do all his work, but i cant get there to help him. His car might need some glow plugs as its started to have hard cold starts, but tonight after it started for a sec then turned off he said it woulnt do anything exactly like a bad starter/N-saftey switch. the dash light dont dim and there is no noise and the battery is good. Besides what i already think is there something on the 87' 300Ds that would give it no click to the starter? Like maybe for the tranny or some computer or something?

I'm pretty much just trying to trouble shoot it from afar.

Also is the jumper box to use a remote starter switch in the same place as the w123/w126? Last i though i remember seeing it there (near battery passanger side render)?

If the NSS is the problem but isn't completely toast, he can try holding the key in start position and moving the shift lever slowly from N to halfway to R then back to halfway to D to see if he can find a sweet spot. Park brake engaged, foot firmly on the brake pedal and no one standing near the car!

If I'm reading the ETM correctly, and that's a big IF, connector X27 just inboard of the brake booser has a violet wire with white stripe that sends power to the starter. I don't know which end goes to the starter. Presumably the end that doesn't come from the cabin since the NSS wires go back to the driver footwell area.
