Manual Climate Control Center Vents
On my '85 Euro 300TD the center vents will only give me outside air when I open the slider on the dash. It sure would be nice to get warm air out of those vents while it is cold outside. Does anyone else with a manual climate control system know if this is normal or if there is a way to modify the system to get warm air out of those vents?
Thanks, Shane

I think it's normal. Dunno how easy modification is. A dashectomy at the very least would be required. I'd just leave them off in the winter.

Those are the freshair vents. Those only open up to the outside air. Ther aren't setup to let warm air in. On the automatic climate control version they only open for the AC anyway so either way you won't get warm air through them.

You could install two Y fittings at each of the heater outlets on each side of the console, replace the center dash vents with the outer type vent and connect the center vents to the two Ys to get heat from the center vents. You would loose the fresh-air vent feature however.

That is kind of a bummer because I love the fresh air in warmer weather. I am finding myself riding around with my left hand in front of the left vent and my right hand is just cold.

That's what I do on my 240D with manual climate control...I have to reach my right hand over to the left vent to warm it up.
On the TD with the automatic CC, I propped open the flap to the center vents (got to it by removing the glove compartment) and now they blow hot air whenever the heater is on. Don't know how the manual systems are plumbed, but I don't think hot air ever gets into those center air ducts anywhere.
