85 300d auto tranny stuff and turbo stuff
hey to all. i jus got me a 85 300d(with 312k miles). it some tranny issues. it shifts weird. some times it shifts ok and others it doesnt. is there any way to bypass all the extra vacuum stuff? and on to another sissue, it seamd like the turbo kind works. you can hear it spool up at low speed, but when your on the hwy it wont accererate well past 60mph. my 83 300d(435k miles) has a lot more power. any ideas out there??

Start with cleaning the banjo bolt then move down the line until you are at the alda.
As far as eliminating vacuum stuff, about the only part you can all the egr portion of the vacuum, there is a good writeup on it. I believe by Brian Carlton. Describe the shifting issues and we will be more able to help. |
Welcome!
Also, add the cars to your signature so we can help you better. Youy problem w/the highway speed does sould like a clogged banjo bolt, a non funtioning turbo switchover valve, a broken delrin line that connects the banjo bolt to the switch over valve then to the ALDA, broken rubber pieces on the switchover valve, or even a stuck open waste gate. |
well the shifting issue, it seams to shift kinda late and it kinda seams to slip into 3ed then catch hard(think its 3ed) the rpms seam to be around the same as my 83. bout 3500 at 80mph, when it gets that fast. hard to get it to go that fast seams like. the 83 roles down the road, 90mph no problem! not the 85 though.

Sounds like you need to adjust your bowden cable and put in a K1 kit in the valve body.
|
k1 kit
where do i get a k1 kit and what is it? is the bowden cable the one that runs up to the top of the valve cover from the tranny?
|
Yes thats the bowden cable, and I beleive you get the K1 kit from the dealer, think its under $20. I just got a superior shift kit myself as I had more than just the one issue. Superior kit is $53.00 from http://www.bulkpart.com/
|
what actually does the k1 kit do?
|
I'd check the transmission vacuum before putting in a kit. Excessive vacuum at the modulator can cause flaring between shifts. If you disconnect the vacuum to the modulator and the shifts firm up, then the problem is vacuum related.
Have you changed the fuel filters? |
yeah changed the filters. its a different power loss than no fuel feel. iv been reading a bunch of stuff on here bout vacuum restrictions today. gonna mess with it some more tomorrow and hook a vacuum gauge n it.
