Mile stone hit today...

Well today was the big roll over, my 1983 300 SD now has 300,000 miles on the clock as of 7:35 this morning... I will change the oil tomorrow night and have new glow plugs I pick up next weekend and install.

What an amazing car the 300SD is, it still gets 30 MPG with 300,000 miles on the clock and just a fun car to own and drive.

Doc.

Thanks guys, I started posting the day after I got the car. I do not regret buying my car, even after the tranmission went out the very next day. It has been a good car, just wish I had bought it new and would have know what it was like back then drive and own.

I see that you live in Wichita, what side of town do you live??? I live just west Valley Center 85th and Ridge area.

BAHAHAHAHAHA... Now that was funny...

As far as I know yes it is still the org motor, from what paper work I have found in the car and the dealer telling what he could about the car.

Are there any places that carry/can obtain parts in the Wichita area. My parents live near the sprawling metropolis of Cassoday, KS and when I go to visit, during the holidays, it seems none of the parts places in the area have a clue where I might find a part in an emergency situation.

BTW, great milestone!

congrats on the 300k. my '83 300SD has 422k on the clock and the odometer stopped working about 4 months ago. I wish you would tell me your secret on how to get 30mpg. Seems like when my odometer did work I was getting just under 20mpg. And I don' think I have the alda turned up too high either.

For a great parts store that talks MB, Kirkes Import part 124 S. Oak 316-264-0391 one block west of the ball park down town. Use to work there and it has been owned by the same person for the past 30 years, one of the owners sold his half about 10 years ago to the other owner. Great people and service and prices.

Salvage yard, I would try Euroasian 2829 N. Broadway 316-838-9288 when my tranny went out this the place I bought it from. Nice guy prices seem fair.

Hope this helps,

Doc.

Good for you, Doc. I'm right behind you with 285,000 on Max. What is the 500K mark in miles, about 310-312,000 miles?

I get about 24 in the city and 30 on the highway. thats a larger gap than on my gassers. But on the highway I tend to go the speed limit in my benz, in the gassers I'm going 5 to 8 above. My odometer stopped with a PO at 217, he had it for two years so I can guess at the mileage of around 275. If he told the truth. I like my old car. Slow and steady wins the race.

Wow ... are the 1st gen w126's that much more aerodynamic than my w123 wagon? I'd love to be getting more than 21-22 mpg out of my 617.

Thumbs up

Awesome --- Congrats on the 300,000!

I'm approaching the 200,000 mark ---- My SD will turn 199,000 on Wednesday of this week on a run from NC up to Ohio.
