If they are anything like the airbags in our cars, they'll likely work still.

A wrecking yard prowler in one of the MB forums I follow finally tested a steering wheel bag, and it still deployed very happily, some years after it had supposedly expired and required replacement...

Thanks Lycoming & TDTdriver, I had to swap the mechanisms from my 85 when I swapped in seats from an 83 because of the different receivers. I guess mine didn't have the new system. Good to know.

A person would really feel stupid getting killed by an exploding seat belt

It simply has a charge in a can that spins the reel tighter. Could hurt you if your hand was on it, I think you'd need to be pretty creative to find a way to kill yourself with it.
