Help me understand the types of OM60X Nozzle Holders
I would like to make sure I understand the different types of nozzle holders (injectors) used in the OM60X engines. From my research it seems that the 603 engine with the #16 and lower head uses the common BOSCH nozzle holder used on the 617 and VWs, and uses nozzle holders with a finer pitch thread on heads 16 and higher, correct?
It also seems that the OM 606 uses a different nozzle holder all together, yes? What type of nozzle holder does the OM 602 and OM603 use? Thank you. :dizzy: |
Generally, newer head = fine thread, unless someone did some 'custom' machine work and put old prechambers in the new head.

What I know is 603.96/#14 heads/vertical prechambers take injectors with coarse threads in the middle of the holder (middle = between tip and wrench flats). 603.97/#17 and later heads/inclined prechambers take injectors with fine threads at the tip of the holder.
I don't know if a #16 is like a #14 or #17 or something entirely different. 602s from 1990 use the 603.97 style injectors. I mean they're visually identical. I don't know about 601 and 190D 602 injectors. 606 injectors also have fine threads at the tip but otherwise look nothing like a 603 injectors. The 606 inj is 22mm rather than 27mm like the others.

Thank you. From a bit more parts-house searching it seems that the 602 Turbo in the 190D uses the same fine-thread holder as the later 603s. It also seems that the 601 uses the early type "course thread" holder.
If anybody could confirm this I would appreciate it. Anybody know about the NA 602? Thank you. |

Anybody with a 190D 2.5 non-turbo that can help me out? |

I just got a box of 15 cores this weekend. Five of them are strange looking. They seem to be the same overall length and have the same thread as a standard 61X injector, but the lower part of the injector is taller, and the top is shorter. They are stamped with a pop pressure of 115 Bar. A "normal" injector is on the right, the unknown one is on the left. Any idea what engine these are from?

My fathers 300SDL uses 3 bosh and 3 Audi/VW injector, fits and works just fine... though the VW has 5 Psi lower than the BOSH..

It also tells you can use them (as an individual assembly) interchangeably. However, as you have noted the parts are different and you cannot mix the parts from type of Nozzle Holder to another (also I have had both apart and the interior parts are a different sizes). I also have some of both types I pulled from various Mercedes at the J yard; none were pulled from VWs. |
