positive air engine shutdown
I've heard of guys with diesel trucks who work around sour gas and CNG areas requiring these setups and they cost THOUSANDS. is there a cheaper way to build or adapt something to be used as a reliable positive air shut off?

A block of wood?
Old Detroit diesels have a metal plate that swings shut in the intake, usually a push-pull cable trips it.

Look for a suitably sized EFI throttle body in a scrap yard, e.g. -
