No, it's more like comparing Jane Mansfield to those skinny hollywood *****es like Nicole Ritchie. Newer ain't better.

w123 all the way!

I would steer you toward a w123 wagon. You're already familiar with your 240, so the jump to a 81-85 wagon will seem relatively easy compared to jumping to an 87 w124. I'll echo other comments that these are bulletproof vehicles, and as long as you take care of them, they will take care of you.

Also, I see you're in my neck of the woods. I don't see many older MB diesels around northwest Ohio. I'll keep an eye out for you!

Put my money where my mouth is....

Well guys,

Linda and I have raised three girls, and since 1993 Linda has ferried the kids around in a W124 wagon. For the first 13 years, she had a 1987 300TD, we replaced it a few years ago with a 95 E320 wagon. The 87 wagon replaced a Ford Taurus wagon.

Had both concurrently for two years, but the newer wagon won out, despite not being a diesel. Right now, the late W124 wagons are real bargains, if you can find a well taken care of example.

I'm partial to wagons, and in addition to the E320, we have a 1979 280TE that is my middle daughter's first car, and a 61 Ford wagon that my brother in law's Dad bought new. Got a 96 Chevy Suburban as well, which might be considered a wagon as well.....

While I like the W123, and Linda loved the 87 300TD, the 94-95 E320 wagons are by far the nicest cars out of the bunch.

Jim

Pure opinion, and pure bunk. The w123 "T" is a excellent car, and if you had a w115, you'll like the w123 better than the w124 IMHO. Kids will love the third seat. Plenty of room for stuff even with my 5 and 6 year old sitting back there. They DON'T need the headrests as their heads don't reach above the seat back anyways. You'd put the 4-7 year olds back there, at least that's what worked and works for me. Now is the time to buy one as prices seem to have come down in the last year.
