Weird, Worrying Electrical then Brake Fault W124

My 1992 300D W124 called Rocky, has been doing great until yesterday when it behaved weirdly.

After starting up, all the electrics weren't working - windows, radio, etc didn't work at all.

Then about 30 seconds later the car totally died. Just stopped running. After turning it off and cranking it again it ran fine - all electrics working again.

Until 30 minutes later when suddenly the brakes quit working - had to pump the brake pedal 3 times to get any pressure. From then on the brakes worked, but they were a little softer than normal.

I have checked all the fuses in the box - all fine.

I have checked the brake fluid level and the calipers for any leakages and found none.

I'm thinking the 2 weirdnesses are probably related but I can't figure out how the brakes would fail from an electrical problem. The ABS would fail safe wouldn't it? It's the only electrical thing I can see in the brake system.

Since the problems listed above happened about 50 miles ago, they haven't reappeared.

Any suggestions appreciated. I'm a bit scared of driving it in case it suddenly doesn't have brakes at a bad time.

No, not the swimming Merc, it's another one. (I'm a 92 merc addict)

It's running on 2 tank WVO though I don't think it is connected to the problems - it's been on WVO for a while

I had this electrical problem on my 83 SD a few weeks ago, I was really worried because I was driving to work and was afraid it would not start back up to come home. As I turned the key to off I realized it was in between 1 and 2. I felt really stupid but really happy at the same time.
