Water in the trunk from the trunk lid

When it rains, I get a bunch of water running down from the edges of the trunk lid, directly into the trunk side wells. Really annoying, and it's a bunch of water. Please tell me they didn't design the car this way??? Hopefully there's something WRONG with my car. I was thinking maybe some leaves are blocking the rubber channel that the lid lifts up from.

Very annoying problem, and now all my tools are rusted.

Thanks,

Are you sure its the trunk seal and not the rear window seal, or taillights? New trunk seals are fairly reasonably priced

The water shouldn't be running in, the seal should stop it. If not, either the seal is bad or the lid is not properly installed/adjusted. Has the car ever been hit in the rear and repaired?

Otherwise, the tail-lamps can be the problem, I had that in my 201 (similar setup) and have removed/re-sealed the lights in all of my 124s since just to be sure.

ugh. i discovered the same problem today! i had water in my trunk when i first got this car last year. i replaced the rear windshield seal and cleaned out the back side vents (behind the rear door windows) and that seemed to fix it. All of a sudden, I open the trunk and it is soaking wet. Drenched! I don't know what to do now.

empty the trunk, have someone you trust help you. Get inside with a flashlight and have your helper shut the lid and run a garden hose over everything. Watch for leaks.

Maybe from seals

This is when I open the trunk lid. Water runs generously down from the ends of the open lid into the trunk wells area. It's possible the seals are clogged, so when I open the lid, stopped up water is then clinging to the lid, hence generously running down once I open it. Visually, it appears the water is coming down from the end of the trunk lid. I'll check the seals and make sure they're not clogged with leaves, etc.

Thanks,

jeff

I had the same problem, water in wells on either side of the trunk. I went to Advance Auto Parts and got a product called "Flowable Silicone Winshield and Glass Sealer" manufactured by Permatex. I sealed both the inner and outter edges on the exterior of the rear windshield. I also sealed the outter edge of the trunk seal because water was getting under the trunk seal and leaking into the trunk. No water in trunk now. I would recommend this product. It only costs about $4.00

I just put in a new trunk seal on the 240 today. The trunk closes very snugly now. I don't know yet if it keeps water out, the glue is probably still curing. But it was pretty easy, and I don't think it was more than $50.
