whats up with the 84-85 turbo diesel ecu?
Hi, I thought the benz turbo diesels were non electronic--then a friend shows me a ecu on ebay---What does this control--He thinks 83 is the year to stay with because it is mechanical --I have always heard 85 is the best year because the IP--and vacum pump are quieter. thankz, panZZer

not an ECU
it is there to control the EGR and tachometer the only thing good about the 85 model year is it was the last year of production so everything has been sorted out, it came with a 2.88 rear end so you get better mpg's than previous years. other than that and a few vacuum system differences its the same. |

Should in be in diesel forums.
For the most part yes. Most of the car is mechinical however there is some electric parts and systems. On 85 they introduced electrical egr which had a different fuel pump. 85 is the best year because of the gear ratio in the rear differential.
