Did I find a gold mine?

During my most recent trip to pick a part, I came a across a '79 300CD, brown ext, black cloth interior, and a 5 speed manual. Any idea's what it's worth? It's not torn apart yet and has a mostly flawless straight body. I could probably take it off their hands for less than $1000. If not, I'm definately taking the trans.

awesome, good for you. when you get it home, could you do me a favor and measure the drive shaft for me? Also, If you end up not taking the car but getting the trans, and you are putting this trans in a sedan I would buy the driveshaft from you. also please check the ratio of the rear end and let me know what it is

take care

If you can buy it whole and get it back on the road, you should do it. A black interior makes it more desirable and since it's cloth and stick, I'd guess it's a Euro. That would be a NICE daily driver.

Where is it? I'd scoop that up in a heartbeat.
That's just about my favorite color combo, and a 5 speed? Forget about it!

Problem is, usually once the car has made it's way into a salvage yard it is not allowed back out. It is a title thing, and I'm not sure if it's just a "yard policy" thing or a legal issue...

Can't you apply for a "salvage" title?

Thumbs up Salvage Cars

GRAB IT ! .

Be aware it's a conversion as Mercedes didn't make any 300CD's with manual trannies but it'll be a great driver , even having no turbo .

Depending on what state you're in , yes you can apply for a salvage title , it'll need a brake & light inspection , those are easy and cheap , just make sure all the lights are working and the brakes have new pads before you go in .

Collision insurance is co$tly or not available on salvage titled cars but who cares ? it only $1,000.00 and you're not driving the title .

I buy most of my vehicles from scrapyards as there's better selection of unmolested originals for less $ there .

Do not procastinate if you want it act fast. If you decide you do not drop me a private message or email. You also may get a shock if they are aware what certain parts are worth.Thanks.

Post Pick-A-Part Values

Barry ;

Although he doesn't say where he's from , I've been in P-A-P's all across America and they're always very affordable , I've never seen any transmission cost over $125.00 regardless of what it's out of nor how rare . this includes Getrag 6 speed and Rolls Royce , yes , I've seen both in Pick A Part plus many more rare cars , they really don't care .

Here's hoping he saves that Coupe as Diesel Coupes are hard to find and I've always thought about converting one to a manual tranny , the 5 speed just sweetens the deal .

In So. Cal. most Mercedes scrap yards sell the 5 speed tranny for W-123's for $250.00...

Ship me the euro lights, bumpers, 5 speed transmission, driveshaft, shift rods and flywheel please. Yes, it's a goldmine, buy the whole car if you can. If you can't, take the Euro injection pump, bumpers, headlights, transmission and everything associated with it... those parts all together are worth thousands. Also sell them on MB shop please.

As the others said, grab it!

It does seem strange though, I thought the CD was a US market only car. Very strange to see one with cloth interior and a 5 speed!
