False alarm. Blower quit again. I thought it was a bad connection at the fuse because it started blowing again after I jiggled the fuse. But then it quit again. Plastic fuse showed evidence of melting at the end. Is a melting fuse indicative of a specific problem.
If you've got an hypothesis, throw it out. When it worked after I replaced the amp, it only blew once the engine warmed up enough to trigger the 'no blow until warm' switch. After reading the manual I now know it should have been blowing on defrost when cold but it wasn't. It was blowing on defrost when cold after jiggling the fuse this morning but quit again after my wife drove it away.

For pictures of the disassembly of the motor in an attempt to replace the brushes, see this thread:

Intermittant #3 (sometimes $9) fues failure on a 116 is usually the fault of a shorted A/C low pressure switch on the drier.

If your system works fine on Heat, but blows the fuse(s) in the A/C & Defrost positions, unplug the low pressure switch and the trouble will cease about 90% of the time.

I have seen hundreds of servos replaced only to have the same problem.

FYI W116 fans...Robert
