When those 606 injectors go bad, they really go bad. The ones I tested had the worst spray pattern I've seen yet.

KarTek- You may want to consider pointing that injector down and spraying into a jar or something. At those pressure the fuel can be injected through your skin, and I don't even want to think about what would happen if you caught it in the eye.

Thanks. I have a jar that I normally spray into but I had it pointed up and away for the video. That thing shoots a plume about 5 feet high!

Not to mention "diesel rain". Doesn't that stuff come down on the ground, at least some of it? When I do pop tests I do them in the garage into a wall-mounted plastic bowl padded with a paper towel and below it I have a tray that catches any run-off.

Recently I was having some intermittent pinging at highway speeds and 1 can of Diesel Purge seems to have cured it. It's not a scientific test, but I still like this product as much as ever. It won't cure all injector or knocking problems, but IMO it's always worth a try.

These test are interesting to see. I have never actually seen a injector pop/spray.

You do not want to get any where near the tip of the injector with any body part when it pops. I will definately inject into your body through your skin. once this happens, there is no way medicaly to remove it, except amputate.

Same with high pressure hydraulic lines, do not run your hand along the hose looking for the leak. I have heard of people getting fingers amputated.

Spraying it into the air, then you will be breathing the diesel mist. can`t be good.

I have used Diesel Purge, and it does make the engine seem to run smoother. I think if it is used every ____ miles, instead of when the engine has a injector problem, it might cut down on the injector problems.

My 2¢ worth.

At 100K, I only had 1 dirty injector with low pop off pressure and bad pattern. Cleaned it and everything was fine. The other 5 were tested to be fine. I think that cleaning and testing ever 100-150K would be just fine. Mine were OK at 200K when I decided to change to Bosio nozzles. I will retest at 100K when I get there.

I still think these cleaners in a can are like sweeping a room in the dark. You are never really sure how much of the room is really clean. With the removal and testing, I can be sure they are clean and if the pressure is still good.

I was using veggie-table oil... The car is really knocking now - actually more than it was before running the purge through it. I'll re-pop some time later this week when it warms up. I'll try to do a better job with the video this time.

From my understanding biodiesel is a good petroleum crud solvent, like the kind that can be found in stale fuel tanks, but not a good carbon solvent.

I've considered using Biodiesel in my parts washer in the shop - what does the stuff smell like?
Would those of you that have run it think it would be a good partswasher solvent?

You can only be sure while the injectors are out on the test bench. As soon as you put them in and run them, you don't know anymore. I'm not arguing against manually testing them and I believe in it, but I'm just saying it's not a guarantee either.

It smells pretty good and as long as it's properly made B100, it's non-toxic. It might leave your parts a bit greasy though.

I would buy it from a commercial pump - I think the meijer in ann arbor sells it - it's certainly much less expensive than solvent - and likely much kinder to skin, clothes, lungs, and brain matter too. The citrus stuff is nice - but really expensive.

Before painting - I normally blow the parts off with compressed air and wipe with acetone, prepsol, or brake cleaner - so leaving a bit of oily residue would be fine - if I'm not painting right away - it would work nicely as a rust inhibitor for a while!?

I think the commercial ones don't leave your parts greasy and can be air blown off easily.

I had a sample of commercially-made B100 sitting on my work bench for some time. I didn't try cleaning my tools with it, but my impression was that it would leave residue behind even if it's not as greasy as veggie oil. It might be a good temporary rust inhibitor.
