Smile Own a mercedes again

Hi Folks,
Enjoy reading this forum very much. I wasn't expecting this element of enjoyment when buying our new 1979 w123 300CD a few weeks ago. Looks like this forum will be a wealth of information as I want to bring this car up to perfect working order. I'm excited to get started figuring it will take a few years. It will be one of those 'labor of love' kinda things, you know what I mean? Anyway, let me tell you about the car.
Its a Gold coupe diesel, what my wife has always wanted. (Yes, she loves diesels) I have the full ownership history and maintenance records of the car. ( Well almost) Indicated mileage is 88,000. Its not actual due to the Speedo gear slippage problem, which is the first thing I fixed. I do believe it is in the 100-150K range, but am still researching. The body has no rust, period. A few small dings and rock chips to show its character is all the road rash it shows. Most all systems work somewhat if not perfect. AC is out, heater works okay but doesn't maintain temp level correctly, cruise control works somewhat and needs help, radio antenna not right, and so forth. Does have a new dealer purchased and installed auto trans. Rubber mouldings all very good. Interior is excellent. Steering and brakes are good and it drives very tight. Surprisingly tight! Never been wrecked. It has some harmonic vibration issues I'm looking into. Overall, a very clean car. Yes, I paid a premium price and don't mind a bit after my last new car experience. Its not a turbo, but quite a improvement over my old 190D. Very adequate for us. I look forward to makin her right.
So I'm using the search feature for now and look forward to chattin with you all. Thanks for listening.
Ron

How do your diesels perform in Alaska? Do you use them much in the winter?

Welcome aboard Ron, I'm another CD'er, mine is a 80. It's a Diamond Blue w/dark blue interior. Great car, I don't miss the turbo a bit. The longer you have it, the more you'll like it. Good luck and we'll keep an eye out to give you a hand.

Welcome Ron.

Welcome Ron,
I have a 79cd too. I know you will truly enjoy this rare machine. I just put my first 1000 miles on mine and boy was it enjoyable. These machines are a rare breed in my area of N.C. Everyone wants to know what year it is. When I tell them, they can't believe it. Moreover, when I show them the mileage they really flip out. Yes, it only has 91000 original miles. The previous owner really pampered the car. Everything works. I did a 600 mile road trip over the labor day weekend, and I could not believe that I was driving a 22year old machine. It purred all the way. Hey guys we really do need to start a 300cd club! I noticed that there are over a dozen of us out there and more coming on board everyday. Welcome and stay in touch.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome guys. Nice find on that car William. I will do a new topic here shortly on how these diesels do in the arctic and how we get them started. Been searching and don't see that info in the forum. Folks may find it interesting. Thanks again
