I have a 2007 ml 320 cdi, I started it this morning and the check engine light went on. I hooked the scanner upto it and it shows P1402. What does this code mean???

EGR valve.

Check the easy stuff first: is its vacuum line and electrical connection hooked up? If so, it may be sticking due to sludge and cold temps.

It has 73000 miles and it was 19 degrees F this morning. Does it need to be cleaned on a regular basis and how do I go about doing that.
